{19}

Enough of this silliness... Here is a little birthday survey :)
[Borrowed from: this blog]

I am: content.
I think: this is one of those birthdays where I won't feel any older.
I know: that God will exceed my expectations during this next year.
I have: the most amazing new friends here, and I feel so blessed by them every day.
I wish: I knew which church God wants me at (patience, patience...)
I miss: my dog. And also all my favorite people.
I fear: deep water & not being able to breathe.
I wonder: how I will answer these questions on my 20th birthday
I regret: nothing, really.
I love: Ema. She keeps me sane.
I am not: sure what my roomie and friends have planned for me tonight, but I'm super excited to find out.
I believe: in God's faithfulness.
I dance: often. Only spontaneously, of course... (Moody friends will get this joke.)
I sing: all the time, and I'm so glad I am doing Gospel Choir. Otherwise I would be having withdrawals.
I cry: with girls from my floor during movie nights. Tangled? The Notebook? So many tears from each one of us piled onto that bunk bed.
I always: feel better after a chapel or church service... seriously so refreshing every time.
I listen: to the street noise every night as I fall asleep- favorite.
I am happy about: everything! God is so good. I can't count how many times I walk into my dorm, hang up my coat, and tell Ema something along the lines of, "I feel so blessed and encouraged right now! Ahh."

Thursday Randoms

Life Randoms

Last week, I finished two books I have been reading since the summer. I feel very accomplished, and they were both really good. They may show up in the grand return of my Monthly Favorites, stay tuned at the beginning of November!

I have a cold while writing his. Here's hoping I don't when it posts on Thursday.

I've been thinking a lot about where certain expressions come from. A bunch of us talked about this last   night while on the bus. Who was first to say that someone's ancestor rolled over in their grave, and why on earth did it catch on? I want to know.

Slang words have also been a fascinating topic of discussion lately. For instance, where you're from, do people say "freakin'" or "friggin'"? I know neither of those expressions are extraordinarily ladylike, but we have discovered that they are said differntly in different areas. Also on the table for discussion: "Y'all", "wicked", and how to pronounce "pillow" and "milk". Have you ever seen someone do "the accent tag" video? I did it a while back, maybe I should post it on here this week... let me know if you'd like to see that!

Fluorescent lights do not like my eyes. Nope, not a bit. Splitting headache every time.

I have developed somewhat of an obsession with the color yellow in the last few months.

This week, God has really been breaking my heart for some friends and families I know. Ema and I have a white board next to our sink + mirror where we write what we're doing that day, as well as verses and prayer requests, and the prayer request section has been growing and growing this week. It's so comforting to know that the people on our list are being comforted by the Lord as they go through stressful and heartbreaking times.

Life Lately in Photos!

Accidentally opened my camera app while Ema and I were checking our directions, and took a picture of her cute little outfit, haha.

Early morning view from the roof... wonderful!

Just face timing my roommate... from across the room.

Found a woooonderful little place with some friends, this is a Peppermint Patty: super delicious fancy hot chocolate with peppermint syrup and lots of whipped cream.

Advantage to having events in the Alumni Auditorium? Walking right down from our room in slippers.

Got a new weaher app that also suggests what you should wear that day! Yes, Ema and I both wore a dress this day.

My view from a new coffee shop I found!! They have an outdoor garden you can sit in.

Watching the frisbee game! I always take pictures of my feet, haha.

Ladies of 3 North huddled outside waiting to go into Informal (improv & sketch comedy show), most of us without jackets!

Screenshot of a map... yeah technology.

Yet another early morning view on the roof! Love.

Love,
Emily

Currently...

I have seen this post on several blogs, but most recently on Gloria's blog (and another one I can't remember...I have been browsing a lot of new loveliness lately). I am adding/subtracting and modifying the versions I've seen. Feel free to copy/paste and post on your own blog and tell me in the comments, or just answer in the comments!

listening to: Pandora, which is playing Ben Folds' "You Don't Know Me" on my Eliza Doolittle station, the rain, and the street sounds of La Salle
reading: "The Sweetest Thing" by Elizabeth Musser
anticipating: our fall bro-sis fall festival, which will involve flannel and apples
loving: my friends.
obsessing over: a new nail polish Ema and I got, it's on both my fingers and toes!

Much love from rainy Chicago,
Emily

Big Bro/Big Sis: Part I

Big Bro/Big Sis is a student group/program at Moody. They are not affiliated with Big Brother/Big Sister that you've heard of, but it's the same basic idea. I am a part of it, so I thought I'd share my experience along the way. I'm gunna write things down as they happen from application to meeting my Little Sib, and then I'll post it all together!

9/8
I went to the Big Bro/Big Sis meeting this day, and felt like God wanted me to step out and do it! Later this week, I filled out my application, prayed a lot, then turned it in!

9/25
Got an email saying that I got in to the program. All I have to do is fill out a few forms and mail them in to the program. I am getting more and more excited. I have seen a few little sibs on campus, and I just can't wait! They are going through the application process with the little sibs at the moment, and we should get paired in the next couple of weeks.

10/5
A couple days ago, a girl on the other wing of my floor found me and told me that I had been paired with a little sis! She told me her name, and that she is six years old. Today we arranged to walk over to her house and meet her and her mom tomorrow! I am so excited to begin this relationship, and see what God has for us.

10/13
A week ago today, as planned, Anna (who lives on the other wing of my floor and is on the exec team for big bro/big sis) and I headed out to meet my little sis. I was so excited, and listened intently as Anna shared with me some advice, as well as experiences she has had during her relationship with her own little sis. When we got to the house, we knocked on the door to no answer. We asked around, and found out that she did live around there, but none of the kids had seen her that day. Anna called the mom, and rescheduled for the following Monday. I was a bit disappointed, of course, but had a surprising amount of peace. I knew that God was preparing me, reminding me that I would have to have patience and flexibility. I continued to pray for my little sis and her family.

That Monday, I met up with another exec member of big bro/big sis, as well as my little sib's sister's future big sib (does that make sense?) Ashley, who hadn't been paired yet either. We walked the same roads, hearing more great stories about the impact this program has made. We knocked on the door, this time being greeted by the grandma. She told us that her daughter had started a new job that day, so she had had to put the kids in the after school program for that day last minute, so plans had changed. Again, we were a bit disappointed, but happy to have met the grandma, and exchanged numbers. It definitely felt like progress. That night, Ashley and I called the Mom and scheduled to meet the next afternoon.

Emily
